Quick answer
No. Bybit does not accept US residents. Registration is blocked at the email-entry step for US IP addresses, and the block covers all four Bybit legal entities across Dubai, Cyprus, Austria and Mauritius. The platform is not a scam, it is a legitimate exchange with 60 million users globally. US traders should use Coinbase, Kraken or Gemini instead.
Does Bybit Work in USA?
Bybit does not work in the USA. I tested registration from a US IP address in 2026: the flow stops at the email-entry step with a geographic restriction message.
The block applies to all four Bybit entities: VARA (Dubai’s virtual-asset regulator), CySEC (Cyprus securities regulator), MiCA (EU crypto-asset framework) in Austria and FSC (Mauritius financial regulator). There is no US-licensed Bybit entity in the corporate structure.
This is not a scam or a policy gap. Bybit has chosen not to pursue US regulatory licensing, and the geographic block is the compliance response to that decision.
⚠️ Attempting to bypass the block via VPN or a non-US address violates Bybit’s Terms of Service. The account can be suspended at any time, and no regulatory protection applies to a US resident on any Bybit entity.
Who CAN Use Bybit in 2026?
Bybit is available across most of the world except five restricted jurisdictions. In my testing, account opening from the UAE, UK, Vietnam, Germany and Brazil completed without restriction.
Countries where Bybit is NOT available:
- United States
- Canada
- Japan
- China (mainland)
- Singapore
If you are in one of these five countries, you need a different exchange. For US residents, Coinbase, Kraken and Gemini are the regulated alternatives with full US regulatory coverage.
Why Is Bybit Blocked for US Residents?
Bybit holds no US license: no SEC (US securities regulator) registration, no CFTC (US derivatives regulator) oversight, no BitLicense (New York’s mandatory crypto-exchange permit) from the New York DFS.
Operating as an unregistered exchange for US retail clients carries significant legal risk. Several major crypto platforms faced US enforcement actions for similar structures.
Bybit’s exclusion of US residents is the standard compliance response. In practice, US residents cannot open accounts, fund positions, or use any Bybit product: spot trading (buying and selling crypto at live market prices), perpetual futures (contracts with no expiry date that track an asset’s price), Bybit Earn or copy trading.
US Alternatives to Bybit
Three regulated US exchanges cover the main use cases Bybit serves:
- Coinbase: spot trading and CFTC-licensed futures, FDIC (US federal deposit insurer)-insured cash balances up to $250K on USD holdings
- Kraken: spot and futures trading, FinCEN (US anti-money-laundering regulator)-registered, available in most US states
- Gemini: New York BitLicense, NYDFS (New York’s financial regulator)-regulated, SOC 2 certified
Fees at US-licensed exchanges run higher. Coinbase Advanced charges 0.4% maker (fee for orders that add liquidity to the book) / 0.6% taker (fee for orders that fill immediately against existing orders) versus Bybit’s 0.0% maker / 0.075% taker.
The regulatory protection is the trade-off. For derivatives traders, Kraken Pro and Coinbase Advanced Trade offer the closest feature parity to Bybit’s perpetual futures on the US-licensed tier.

Should You Trade With Bybit?
For traders outside the five restricted jurisdictions, Bybit offers genuinely competitive conditions: 0.0% maker / 0.075% taker on spot, USDT TRC-20 (Tron network’s token standard) withdrawals averaging 4.6 minutes across 8 test cycles, and a regulatory stack covering MENA, EU and global markets.
For US residents, the block is enforced at registration. Attempting to bypass it via VPN risks account suspension with no regulatory recourse.

Frequently asked questions
Which Bybit entity will hold my account?
MENA residents (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait) are routed to Bybit Fintech under VARA (Dubai's virtual-asset regulator). EU residents route to Bybit EU under CySEC (Cyprus securities regulator) or Bybit Austria under MiCA (EU crypto-asset framework), depending on jurisdiction. All other non-EU global clients, including UK residents, are served by Bybit Mauritius under FSC (Mauritius financial regulator). US residents are not routed to any entity: registration is blocked at the email-entry step.
Does Bybit protect client funds?
Yes, for non-US clients. Bybit holds client crypto in cold storage (offline wallets disconnected from the internet) separate from its operational funds, with approximately 95% in cold storage. The Q1 2026 Hacken Proof of Reserves (independent audit confirming exchange assets fully cover client balances) attestation confirmed 105% coverage on BTC, ETH and USDT against client liabilities. The insurance fund stood at $1.1 billion as of April 2026. There is no FSCS (UK deposit protection scheme) or ICF (EU investor compensation fund) on the FSC (Mauritius financial regulator) entity, but the monthly Proof of Reserves cadence and the $1.1 billion insurance fund serve a comparable function.
Is Bybit a scam?
No. Bybit is a legitimate crypto exchange founded in 2018, regulated by VARA (Dubai's virtual-asset regulator), CySEC (Cyprus securities regulator), MiCA (EU crypto-asset framework) in Austria and FSC (Mauritius financial regulator). It serves over 60 million users globally with a 4.5 Trustpilot score from 32,100 reviews. The geographic block on US residents is a regulatory compliance decision, not a scam signal. What is the minimum deposit for Bybit?
Bybit has no minimum deposit. The standard account opens with any amount. The no-KYC (Know Your Customer, identity verification) basic tier allows withdrawals up to $10,000 per day. USDT TRC-20 (Tron network's token standard) withdrawals cost $1 flat and cleared in an average of 4.6 minutes across 8 test cycles in 2025 and 2026.
Is Bybit available in the USA?
No. Bybit explicitly blocks US residents, including US citizens abroad who use a US address, from registering or trading. The block also covers Canada, Japan, China and Singapore. US residents can use Coinbase (SEC-registered, where SEC is the US securities regulator; FDIC-insured cash up to $250K, FDIC being the US federal deposit insurer), Kraken (FinCEN-registered, FinCEN being the US anti-money-laundering regulator; CFTC-monitored, CFTC being the US derivatives regulator) or Gemini (New York BitLicense, the state's required crypto-exchange permit; NYDFS-regulated, NYDFS being New York's financial regulator) instead.
