Regulation in Portugal

Portugal requires authorisation from the CMVM (Comissão do Mercado de Valores Mobiliários) or MiFID II passporting from another EEA regulator. ESMA retail leverage caps apply: 1:30 majors, 1:20 minors and gold, 1:2 crypto CFDs, with mandatory negative-balance protection. The CMVM publishes warnings on unauthorised entities.

Portuguese trading profits are generally taxed as capital gains (Categoria G) at a flat 28% rate in 2026, with an option to aggregate with other income at progressive rates where that is more favourable.
