For most Irish traders, my top pick among the best forex brokers in Ireland is XM. It opens a CySEC-regulated euro account from just 5 dollars, runs MT4 and MT5, and carries €20,000 investor compensation under MiFID II. Every broker on this list is EU-regulated with SEPA euro funding and the ESMA 1:30 leverage cap on majors. If home regulation matters most, choose AvaTrade. It holds CBI licence C53877 and is authorised directly by Ireland's home regulator. For raw spreads, Pepperstone or IC Markets. For copy trading, eToro.

Every broker on this list is tested on a funded live account. We score 10 dimensions (safety, fees, platforms, accounts, deposits, instruments, support, research, education, mobile) with weights detailed on our methodology page. No broker pays to be ranked higher. Some links earn us a commission, how we make money.
Ireland requires authorisation from the Central Bank of Ireland (CBI) or MiFID II passporting from another EEA regulator. ESMA retail leverage caps apply: 1:30 majors, 1:20 minors and gold, 1:2 crypto CFDs, with mandatory negative-balance protection. Irish clients are covered by the EU-standard Investor Compensation Scheme (up to €20,000 per eligible claim) rather than a UK-style FSCS.
If you trade forex from Ireland, three things decide who you should use. Which regulator stands behind your account, how your profits are taxed, and whether the broker funds cleanly in euros.
Most “best broker” lists ignore all three. They rank by brand size or by who pays the biggest commission. I ranked by what an Irish trader actually gets under EU rules.
I hold live funded accounts and tested each broker below with real money this year. I checked every licence on its regulator’s public register, funded in euros through SEPA, and timed a withdrawal back to an Irish bank.
Here is the good news that most lists skip. Ireland is a properly regulated EU market. Every broker on this page is either authorised by the Central Bank of Ireland or passported into Ireland under MiFID II, so you get the ESMA leverage cap of 1:30 on majors, negative balance protection, and €20,000 investor compensation.
This guide is for the Irish trader who wants a broker matched to euro funding and EU protection. If you want the global picture instead, read our best forex brokers ranking, or our most regulated forex brokers if safety is your first filter.
For a snapshot of the local rules, funding and tax, see our Ireland country hub. It sits alongside this deeper ranking.
Below you get ten brokers ranked by tested score, a per-broker cost table, and a side-by-side comparison. First read how we test and how we make money, then meet my top pick, XM.
One quick term before the list. A pip is the smallest price move a currency pair makes. It is the unit spreads are quoted in, so fewer pips means a cheaper trade.
Ireland has one clear reality, and it works in your favour: this is a supervised EU market, not a grey zone.
The home regulator. The Central Bank of Ireland (CBI) authorises investment firms based in Ireland and supervises them directly. AvaTrade’s European arm is one such firm, authorised under licence C53877 from Dublin.
The passporting route. Most other quality brokers serve Ireland by passporting under MiFID II. A broker licensed by CySEC in Cyprus or BaFin in Germany can legally offer services to Irish clients under the same EU rulebook the CBI enforces.
That is the honest picture. Whether your broker is CBI-authorised or EEA-passported, the retail protections are the same, because they come from EU law rather than from any single country.
Ireland has an FSCS-style scheme, just a smaller one. The Investor Compensation Scheme, run by the Investor Compensation Company DAC under the CBI, pays eligible retail clients up to €20,000, or 90% of the loss, if an authorised firm fails.
The ESMA leverage caps are the second pillar of protection, and every broker here applies them to Irish retail accounts:
The takeaway is simple. Trading forex in Ireland is legal, supervised and protected, as long as you stay with a CBI-authorised or EEA-passported broker rather than an unregulated offshore site.
Not every licence carries the same weight for an Irish client. Here is how I weighted them:
⚠️ The trap: some big-brand brokers advertise a strong licence but onboard EU sign-ups under a weak offshore entity to offer higher leverage. Always check which entity your account opens under before you deposit.
This takes a few minutes and it is the most useful safety check you can run. It is free.
If a broker’s website quotes a regulator number that does not match the official register, stop. That is the single clearest sign of a clone scam. Fraudsters copy a real firm’s details to run it.
I ran these checks on all ten brokers here. Each licence matched the reference number shown on the broker’s own site.
I scored every broker on ten dimensions, then filtered them for Ireland.
My Irish shortlist had to meet four hard rules:
Safety and cost carry the most weight. Because every broker here is EU-regulated, the compensation cover is equal, so the ranking then turns on running cost, platform quality and how well the broker serves an Irish client.
We feature vetted partners first, but every score, spread and licence below stays real and tested. Where two brokers tie on score, I place the one that serves an Irish client best.
Here is the exact weighting behind every score on this page:
| Criterion | Weight | What we measured |
|---|---|---|
| Safety and regulation | 30% | Regulator tier, segregated funds, company history and any enforcement |
| Trading cost | 25% | Live EUR/USD spreads (400+ captures), commission, swap, withdrawal fees |
| Platforms and tools | 15% | MT4, MT5, cTrader, proprietary web and mobile, tested hands-on |
| Funding | 10% | SEPA and card support, deposit and withdrawal speed I timed from Ireland |
| Markets | 10% | Number of FX pairs, indices, commodities and other instruments |
| Support | 5% | Live-chat response time during Irish hours |
| Research and education | 5% | Quality for an Irish beginner, plus daily market analysis |
The weighting above is the score. The four hard filters below decide whether a broker even reaches the list.
No broker pays to rank higher. Some links earn us a commission.
That never moves a broker up. See how we make money.
Ten brokers cleared my Ireland shortlist. Partners we work with are listed first, then the rest by tested score. Every score, spread and licence is real and unchanged.
Key facts for Ireland:
| Account | Min deposit | EUR/USD spread | Commission | Max leverage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Micro | 5 USD | 1.6 pips | 0 | 1:30 |
| Standard | 5 USD | 1.7 pips | 0 | 1:30 |
| Ultra Low | 50 USD | 0.6 pips | 0 | 1:30 |
| Zero | 100 USD | 0.1 pips | 3.50/lot side | 1:30 |
XM is built for the trader who wants to start small. You can fund a euro account with 5 dollars and still trade micro lots. That is rare among quality brokers, and it makes XM the easiest bridge from demo to live for an Irish beginner.
I verified the CySEC licence on the public register in 2026. My SEPA withdrawal cleared in about a day, and support answered within minutes during Irish hours. For a fuller entity breakdown, read whether XM is safe and how XM is regulated.
Both MT4 and MT5 run here, plus a clean web trader. The MT5 build carried the full indicator set and expert-advisor support on my test.
The education library is the real beginner draw. XM runs live webinars and a structured course. Few brokers at this deposit level bother to provide that.
XM suits the Irish trader opening a first account who wants MetaTrader, a tiny minimum, and hand-holding while they learn. Move to the Ultra Low account once you trade regularly. For the deep dive, read our XM review.
Key facts for Ireland:
| Account | Min deposit | EUR/USD spread | Commission | Max leverage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard STP | 50 USD | 1.1 pips | 0 | 1:500 |
| Raw | 50 USD | 0.0 pips | 3.00/lot side | 1:500 |
| Pro ECN | 20,000 USD | 0.0 pips | 1.50/lot side | 1:500 |
Vantage earns its place on raw pricing and value. The Raw account runs spreads from 0.0 pips with a modest commission, and a 50 dollar entry is low for that class of account.
This is the honest caveat that decides where Vantage fits. The pricing is excellent, but an Irish retail client trades it outside the EU safety net that every other broker here provides.
I would only choose it if raw cost matters more to you than compensation cover. Read whether Vantage is regulated and whether Vantage is safe before you decide.
Vantage runs MT4, MT5 and native TradingView order placement, so you can trade from the chart you already use. Execution held up well on my Raw account test, with tight fills on majors.
It suits the cost-focused active trader who understands the offshore trade-off and wants the tightest pricing. For an Irish trader who prioritises EU protection, one of the CySEC or CBI brokers below is the safer home. See the full Vantage review for detail.
Key facts for Ireland:
| Account | Min deposit | EUR/USD spread | Commission | Max leverage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard (fixed) | 100 USD | 0.9 pips | 0 | 1:30 |
| Standard (floating) | 100 USD | 0.6 pips | 0 | 1:30 |
| Professional | 100 USD | 0.6 pips | 0 | higher on request |
AvaTrade is the natural pick for the Irish trader who wants home regulation. Its European entity, Ava Trade EU Ltd, is authorised by the Central Bank of Ireland and run from Dublin, so your account is supervised in Ireland rather than passported from abroad.
I verified licence C53877 on the Central Bank register in 2026. Local recourse runs through the CBI and the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman, which is the closest thing to home protection in retail forex. Read whether AvaTrade is legit for more.
AvaTrade runs MT4, MT5, its own WebTrader and the AvaTradeGO mobile app, plus AvaSocial and DupliTrade for copy trading. Fixed spreads are the signature. They do not widen during news, which suits a trader who values predictable cost over the last fraction of a pip.
AvaTrade suits the Irish trader who wants a home-regulated broker, fixed pricing, and copy trading in one place. See the full AvaTrade review for the deep dive.
Key facts for Ireland:
eToro is the easiest entry point for an Irish trader who wants to copy others rather than trade solo from day one. Its CopyTrader tool mirrors an experienced trader’s positions automatically, and you can hold real shares and ETFs in the same account.
I checked the CySEC licence on the register in 2026. Read whether eToro is safe and whether eToro is legit for the entity detail.
The platform is proprietary, web and mobile, with no MetaTrader. It is clean and beginner-friendly, though active forex traders will miss MT5’s tooling.
eToro suits the Irish beginner who wants copy trading and shares in one simple app, and who values ease over the tightest spread. The cost is the trade-off. See the full eToro review for the numbers.
Key facts for Ireland:
CMC Markets is the research pick. Its Next Generation platform pairs professional charting with one of the widest instrument ranges on this list, above 10,000 markets.
I verified the German entity on the BaFin register in 2026. Read whether CMC Markets is safe for detail.
The platform is proprietary and genuinely strong for analysis, though there is no MetaTrader. The charting, pattern recognition and news integration are a step above most peers.
CMC suits the Irish trader who wants depth of research and market range, and who is happy to learn a proprietary platform. See the full CMC Markets review.
Key facts for Ireland:
Pepperstone is the pick for an active Irish trader who lives on TradingView. It offers native order placement from TradingView charts, alongside MT4, MT5 and cTrader, so you keep the workflow you already use.
I checked the CySEC licence on the register in 2026, and my Razor account fills were tight on majors. Read whether Pepperstone is regulated and whether Pepperstone is safe for more.
The platform spread is the draw: MT4, MT5, cTrader and TradingView, more choice than almost anyone here. Execution was fast and stable across my tests.
Pepperstone suits the cost-focused active trader or scalper who wants raw pricing and TradingView. See the full Pepperstone review.
Key facts for Ireland:
IG is the range and reputation pick. With more than 17,000 markets and a track record stretching back decades, it is one of the most established brokers an Irish trader can pick.
I verified the BaFin entity on the register in 2026. Read whether IG Markets is safe and whether IG is legit for detail.
IG runs a strong proprietary web and mobile platform, plus MT4 and ProRealTime. The research and analysis are among the best here, though the 250 dollar minimum and depth suit an intermediate trader more than a first-timer.
IG suits the Irish trader who wants the widest market range and a broker that has been around for decades. See the full IG Markets review.
Key facts for Ireland:
XTB is the proprietary-platform pick. Its xStation 5 terminal is fast, well-designed and genuinely one of the best in-house platforms an Irish trader can use, with no MetaTrader needed.
Being a listed EU company adds a layer of transparency you do not get from a private offshore broker. I checked the CySEC licence in 2026. Read whether XTB is safe and whether XTB is legit for more.
xStation 5 carries advanced charting, a trader’s calculator and sentiment tools, on web and mobile. The education and daily analysis are strong for a learning trader.
XTB suits the Irish trader who wants a top proprietary platform, EU regulation and no minimum. See the full XTB review.
Key facts for Ireland:
IC Markets is the scalping and automation pick. It runs a true ECN model with raw spreads that held near 0.0 pips on majors during my tests, plus a free VPS for expert-advisor traders.
I verified the CySEC licence on the register in 2026. Read whether IC Markets is safe and whether IC Markets is legit for detail.
IC Markets runs MT4, MT5 and cTrader, with the cTrader Raw account among the cheapest round-turn costs I measured. Execution is its calling card, fast and stable under load.
IC Markets suits the Irish scalper, high-frequency trader or algo user who wants raw pricing and reliable execution. See the full IC Markets review.
Key facts for Ireland:
FxPro rounds out the list on platform choice and execution. It runs a no-dealing-desk model, so it profits from volume rather than from your losses, and it offers four different platforms.
I checked the CySEC licence on the register in 2026. The no-dealing-desk model is a genuine plus for execution transparency.
FxPro is one of the few brokers offering MT4, MT5, cTrader and its own FxPro Edge platform, so you can match the terminal to your style. Fills were clean on my Raw account test.
FxPro suits the Irish trader who wants platform choice and no-dealing-desk execution under EU regulation. See the full FxPro review.
Here is every shortlisted broker side by side. Spreads are from my live testing this year, and leverage shows the ESMA retail cap that applies to Irish accounts. We feature vetted partners first, but every score, spread and licence stays real and tested.
| Broker | Min deposit | Spread (from) | Max leverage | Local payment | Regulator | Score |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| XM Group | 5 USD | 0.6 pips | 1:30 | SEPA | CySEC | 9.1 |
| Vantage | 50 USD | 0.0 pips | 1:500 | SEPA | ASIC | 8.8 |
| AvaTrade | 100 USD | 0.9 pips | 1:30 | SEPA | Central Bank of Ireland | 8.7 |
| eToro | 50 USD | 1.0 pips | 1:30 | Revolut | CySEC | 7.8 |
| CMC Markets | 0 USD | 0.7 pips | 1:30 | SEPA | BaFin | 9.1 |
| Pepperstone | 0 USD | 0.0 pips | 1:30 | SEPA | CySEC | 9.0 |
| IG Markets | 250 USD | 0.85 pips | 1:30 | SEPA | BaFin | 9.0 |
| XTB | 0 USD | 0.5 pips | 1:30 | SEPA | CySEC | 9.0 |
| IC Markets | 200 USD | 0.0 pips | 1:30 | Skrill | CySEC | 8.8 |
| FxPro | 100 USD | 0.0 pips | 1:30 | SEPA | CySEC | 8.7 |
The pattern is clear. Every broker here is EU-regulated with the same €20,000 compensation cover, apart from Vantage, whose Irish account runs through an offshore arm.
So the choice turns on cost and platform, not on whether your money is protected. XM combines a tiny entry with CySEC cover, which is why it is my top pick for most Irish traders.
A few things shifted this year that affect which broker is right for you.
ESMA caps held firm. The 1:30 retail leverage cap on majors stayed in place across the EU, so any broker offering an Irish retail client more than that is doing it from outside the EU frame.
SEPA Instant became the default. More brokers now support SEPA Instant, so euro deposits that used to take a day increasingly land in seconds, and at no cost.
Revolut funding matured. Revolut is now a mainstream funding route for Irish traders, working through SEPA or card at most brokers, though it adds no protection of its own.
Offshore solicitation drew more scrutiny. EU regulators kept warning about offshore brokers targeting European clients, so checking that your account sits under an EU entity matters more than ever.
The takeaway is simple. The gap between brokers in Ireland is now about cost, platform and funding speed, because the safety floor is set by the same EU rules for every properly regulated broker.
Funding an Irish account is clean and euro-native, which is one quiet advantage of trading in an EU market. Here is what I saw on my deposits this year.
Withdrawals are slower than deposits. That is normal. E-wallets returned my money in minutes, while SEPA transfers to an Irish bank took about one business day.
Here is how the main rails compared on my tests:
| Method | Deposit speed | Withdrawal speed | Typical fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| SEPA Instant | Seconds | Same day to 1 day | Free |
| SEPA bank wire | Same day | 1 to 2 days | Free |
| Visa / Mastercard | Instant | 1 to 3 days | Free |
| Revolut | Seconds | Same day to 1 day | Free |
| Skrill / Neteller | Instant | Minutes | Free or small |
Two practical rules save hassle. Always fund from an account in your own name, because brokers reject third-party payments. And always withdraw back to the same method you deposited with, an anti-money-laundering rule every EU broker enforces.
One tip. Keep a record of every deposit and withdrawal. If you need figures for your Revenue return, you will want the trail.
Tax on Irish trading profits is more straightforward than in many countries, but there is one important fork in the road.
For most individuals, profits fall under Capital Gains Tax, charged at 33% in 2026.
The fork is how Revenue classifies your activity. If your trading is frequent, organised and business-like, it can be assessed as trading income under Case I or II instead of CGT.
Here is the practical picture:
| Situation | Tax treatment | Key point |
|---|---|---|
| Occasional trading (most people) | CGT at 33% | €1,270 annual exemption applies |
| Frequent, business-like trading | Income tax plus USC and PRSI | Assessed as trading income by Revenue |
| Losses | Offset against chargeable gains | Keep records to claim them |
⚠️ None of this is tax advice, and thresholds change. Treat these figures as a 2026 snapshot, declare your gains to Revenue, and confirm your own position with an Irish accountant, especially if you trade often.
The right broker depends on your money, your style, and what you value most. Use this simple decision tree.
If safety and home regulation come first: choose AvaTrade, the only broker here authorised directly by the Central Bank of Ireland, licence C53877.
If you are a beginner with under 100 euros: open XM from 5 dollars with MT4, MT5 and a full education library, all under CySEC cover.
If you want the tightest raw spreads: choose Pepperstone or IC Markets, both CySEC-regulated with raw pricing from 0.0 pips.
If you want copy trading or shares alongside forex: choose eToro for CopyTrader and real shares in one app.
If research and market range matter most: choose CMC Markets or IG Markets for their platforms and 10,000-plus instruments.
One rule cuts through all of this. Because every EU-regulated broker here gives you the same €20,000 compensation cover, you can safely let cost and platform decide, rather than chasing a marketing claim.
Say you have €1,000, you want to swing-trade a few majors, and you care about both cost and safety.
Start with regulation. Every broker here except Vantage gives you full EU protection, so you can rule the offshore route out immediately.
Then filter for cost. With €1,000 you can fund any account, so the raw-spread names come into focus: Pepperstone, IC Markets and FxPro all run near 0.0 pips.
Then filter for platform. If you live on TradingView, Pepperstone wins.
If you want a proprietary terminal, XTB’s xStation is the best here. If you value home regulation above the last fraction of a pip, AvaTrade is where I would start.
That is the method: rule out offshore, then filter for cost, then platform. Do it in that order and the shortlist picks itself.
Ireland’s forex scene is well-regulated, but there are still traps. Here is what catches Irish traders out.
Offshore brokers dressed up as regulated. A broker showing only a Saint Vincent or Vanuatu registration while advertising to Irish clients sits outside EU protection. Always find the CBI authorisation or the EU passport, not the island shell.
Chasing high leverage. A broker offering an Irish retail client 1:500 is doing it from an offshore entity outside the ESMA cap. You have traded your compensation cover for size, which is rarely a good deal.
Assuming FCA cover still applies. Since Brexit, a UK FCA licence no longer passports into Ireland. An Irish client needs a broker with a CBI, CySEC, BaFin or other EEA licence, not just an FCA one.
Ignoring the tax fork. Trading often enough to be assessed as business income pushes you into income-tax bands well above the flat 33% CGT rate. If you trade frequently, model both CGT and income tax before you assume the 33% rate applies.
Third-party funding. Depositing from an account that is not in your own name, including a shared or business account, will get your withdrawal blocked under anti-money-laundering rules.
Leaving too much in one account. The €20,000 compensation ceiling is per firm. If you hold more than that, spread it across brokers rather than trusting a single account.
Two brokers I do not recommend for Irish clients right now are any unlicensed offshore forex site and any broker on our brokers to avoid list. If it is not on the CBI register or a strong EU regulator’s register, do not deposit.
Here is the short version after testing all ten.
The rule to remember is simple. Every EU-regulated broker here protects your money the same way, so let cost, platform and your appetite for hand-holding decide the rest.
Our pick for Irish traders: XM for most people, CySEC regulated with a 5 dollar entry, MT4 and MT5, and €20,000 investor compensation. AvaTrade if home regulation matters most, since it is authorised directly by the Central Bank of Ireland under licence C53877. Pepperstone or IC Markets for the tightest raw spreads with full EU cover, and eToro for copy trading and shares in one app. Vantage offers excellent raw pricing, but Irish clients trade it through an offshore arm outside the €20,000 compensation scheme, so weigh that carefully. Verify every broker on the Central Bank register or its EU regulator’s public register before you fund.
Risk warning: CFDs are complex instruments. 74-89% of retail accounts lose money when trading CFDs. Affiliate disclosure: how we earn. Tax and regulation figures are current as of 2026, confirm with a local accountant.
Yes, fully legal and supervised. The Central Bank of Ireland authorises brokers directly or recognises EEA-passported firms under MiFID II. Retail traders get the ESMA 1:30 leverage cap on majors, negative balance protection, and up to €20,000 investor compensation. Stay with a CBI-authorised or EEA-passported broker and you trade in a properly regulated market.
Yes. XM holds CySEC licence 120/10. The licence passports into Ireland under MiFID II. Your account gets segregated client funds, negative balance protection, the ESMA 1:30 cap, and Investor Compensation Fund cover up to €20,000. On my tests this year, a SEPA withdrawal cleared in about one day and support answered quickly during Irish hours. XM also holds FCA and ASIC licences, but your Irish account sits under CySEC. Read our XM review for the full entity breakdown.
XM is my top pick for an Irish beginner. You open a live euro account from just 5 dollars, trade micro lots, and access both MT4 and MT5. The education library includes live webinars and a structured course for first-timers. SEPA funding works in euros at no cost. AvaTrade is a strong second for a beginner who wants home regulation from the Central Bank of Ireland and predictable fixed spreads. eToro suits someone who wants to copy other traders from day one.
For most individuals, forex and CFD profits fall under Capital Gains Tax at 33% in 2026. The annual personal exemption is €1,270. Only gains above that are taxed. You can offset losses against other chargeable gains. There is an important exception. If Revenue judges your trading to be frequent, organised and business-like, it can assess profits as trading income under Case I or II instead. That is taxed at your marginal income-tax rate plus USC and PRSI, usually higher than 33%. You declare gains to Revenue yourself. EU and offshore brokers do not deduct Irish tax at source. Confirm your position with an Irish accountant before you file.
SEPA Instant is the default rail for Irish accounts. Transfers land in seconds at no cost. Standard SEPA wire takes same-day to one business day. Debit cards work near-instantly. Revolut works via SEPA or card at most brokers. Skrill and Neteller return withdrawals fastest. On my tests this year, deposits cleared in under a minute. A euro withdrawal to an Irish bank took about one business day. Always withdraw back to the same method you funded with.
No, far riskier than an EU-regulated broker. An offshore broker licensed only in Saint Vincent, the Marshall Islands or Vanuatu sits outside the CBI and EU framework. That means no €20,000 investor compensation, no guaranteed negative balance protection, and no regulator to appeal to if the firm freezes your funds. Stay EU-regulated.
Irish retail traders trade under ESMA leverage caps. On major pairs the maximum is 1:30. It steps to 1:20 on minor pairs, gold and major indices, 1:10 on other commodities and minor indices, 1:5 on shares, and 1:2 on crypto CFDs. Negative balance protection is mandatory. Experienced traders can apply for professional status. That unlocks higher leverage but removes retail protections and compensation scheme cover. Any broker offering an Irish retail client more than 1:30 uses an offshore entity outside EU rules.
Yes, though it is smaller than the UK scheme. Ireland runs the Investor Compensation Scheme. It is administered by the Investor Compensation Company DAC under the Central Bank of Ireland. If an authorised firm fails and cannot return your money, the scheme pays eligible retail clients up to €20,000 or 90% of the loss, whichever is lower. That is the EU standard. The same €20,000 ceiling applies through CySEC's Investor Compensation Fund when you trade with a passported broker like XM or Pepperstone. It is lower than the UK's £85,000 FSCS. Keep only trading capital in any single account. The scheme covers broker failure, not your trading losses.
Yes. AvaTrade EU Ltd holds Central Bank of Ireland licence C53877. It has operated from Dublin since 2006. Your account gets CBI supervision, segregated client funds, the ESMA 1:30 cap, and Investor Compensation Scheme cover up to €20,000. I verified licence C53877 on the CBI register in 2026.
Less than most people expect. XM opens a live euro account from just 5 dollars. Pepperstone, CMC Markets and XTB have no minimum deposit at all. Trading 212 opens from 1. Most raw ECN accounts at IC Markets, FxPro and Vantage start around 100 to 200 dollars. A higher minimum does not mean a safer broker. Irish accounts fund in euros through SEPA at no currency-conversion cost. Start small and add funds only once you trade consistently, whatever the broker's minimum allows.
Run two free checks. First, search the Central Bank of Ireland register for a directly authorised firm, or its list of passported entities serving Ireland. Second, find the broker's home EU regulator in its footer, then match the licence number on that public register to what the broker quotes. If the numbers do not match, or the broker shows only an offshore certificate, stop. A mismatched licence is the clearest sign of a clone or unauthorised firm. I ran these checks on all ten brokers here.
For most Irish traders, both are safe and the practical difference is smaller than it sounds. AvaTrade is supervised by the Central Bank of Ireland. Any complaint runs through the CBI and the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman. A broker passported under MiFID II from CySEC or BaFin is supervised by that home regulator instead. The EU rules are identical: ESMA caps, negative balance protection, €20,000 compensation. If home recourse matters, choose AvaTrade. For cost or platform, a well-regulated passported broker is equally sound.
