10 trading apps tested with live capital. Real spreads, real withdrawal times, and every licence checked on the public register.
69+ forex brokers tested by Laura West · real funded accounts
If you want the best all-round trading app on a small budget, XM is where I would start: it opens at a $5 minimum deposit, holds four tier-1 licences including the UK's FCA and Australia's ASIC, and its app stays simple while your early mistakes stay cheap. For copy trading, eToro is the app I would pick, because its CopyTrader shows a real performance history per trader before you risk a cent. If running cost is your priority, Exness averaged about 0.2 pips on EUR/USD in my testing, roughly $1.30 a lot, the cheapest here. Beginners who want a no-minimum start can look at XTB or CMC Markets, both with polished mobile platforms. I verified every licence on the regulator's own public register in 2026 and tested each app on a live funded account, weighting real safety and true cost above flashy features.

Every broker on this list is tested on a funded live account. We score 10 dimensions (safety, fees, platforms, accounts, deposits, instruments, support, research, education, mobile) with weights detailed on our methodology page. No broker pays to be ranked higher. Some links earn us a commission, how we make money.
There are hundreds of trading apps on the app store. Most rankings sort them by star rating and screenshots.
Ours does not. A five-star icon tells you an app is easy to install. It tells you nothing about who holds your money or what a trade actually costs.
So I tested ten apps the way you would use them: with a live funded account, real deposits, and a withdrawal cycle at the end. I checked every licence on the regulator’s own public register in 2026, not the badge in the app footer.
Two facts decide whether an app is worth your money:
A quick note on how this list is ordered, because it is not a pure score ranking. We feature vetted partners first, then rank the rest by tested score.
The scores, spreads, and licences below stay real and unchanged. So a partner near the top can honestly show a lower score than a broker below it.
The order reflects best fit for a typical reader, safety, funding, and app quality, and I explain the basis again in the ranking section.
New here? Start with our testing methodology to see how we score, and our how we make money page for the affiliate disclosure. If forex is your main market, the fuller best forex brokers ranking goes deeper on spreads, and best regulated forex brokers is the safety-first cut of the same field.
Every app was scored on five weighted pillars. The weighting reflects what protects and costs a real trader, not what looks good in a demo.
A few rules keep the ranking honest:
Here is the exact rubric, so you can weight it yourself if your priorities differ from the average reader.
| Pillar | Weight | What earns a high mark | What loses marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regulation and safety | 30% | Two or more tier-1 licences, compensation scheme, verified active register entry | Offshore-only licence, no scheme, any live enforcement action |
| Cost | 25% | Sub-$2 all-in per lot, transparent commission, no inactivity trap | Wide bundled spread, hidden financing, high withdrawal fee |
| Withdrawals | 20% | Same-day or faster payout, no fee, multiple tested cycles | Multi-day delays, document requests only at payout |
| App and platform | 15% | Stable, fast order entry, real charting, biometric login | Crashes, laggy fills, thin charting, no 2FA |
| Support and education | 10% | Sub-minute live chat, deep in-app learning library | Slow or scripted support, no education |
If you are a scalper, mentally lift the cost and app weights. If you are a long-term investor, lift regulation and lower cost. The buyer’s guide near the end maps trader types to apps regardless of the headline order.
The order below leads with vetted partners, then ranks the rest by tested score. Scores stay real, so a partner can sit above a higher-scoring broker. That reflects fit for a typical reader, safety, funding, and app quality, and each score is the same figure published in that broker’s full review.
Key facts:
I opened a live XM account in 2026 and it earns its place at the top of this list for one reason a beginner feels immediately: serious protection at the lowest possible entry cost. Founded in 2009 and run by the Trading Point group, XM pairs a genuinely simple app with a $5 funded minimum.
All four returned active status with no enforcement on file. You can read the full entity map in whether XM is regulated and its safety record in whether XM is safe.
XM runs MT4, MT5, and its own XM App, plus WebTrader in the browser. The XM App is the star for this ranking: biometric login, one-tap order entry, and a clean layout that does not overwhelm a first-time trader.
The in-app education is unusually deep, with daily webinars and a full learning library, and the free demo never expires. XM suits the trader opening a first account with $500 or less who wants tier-1 protection without a high entry floor.
| Account | Min deposit | EUR/USD spread | Commission | Max leverage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | $5 | 0.6 pips | $0 | 1:30 |
| Raw | $5 | 0.0 pips | from $3.50/side | 1:30 |
There is no inactivity fee on the Standard account for the first period, which matters if you trade seasonally. EU clients on the CySEC entity face the 1:30 retail cap, while the headline 1:1000 belongs to the offshore book only. Full breakdown in my XM review.
Key facts:
I tested eToro for the one job it does better than anything else here: copy trading inside a genuinely social app. Founded in 2007, eToro is now a Nasdaq-listed company, and its app is where a beginner can follow experienced traders without placing every order by hand.
Read the detail in whether eToro is safe, whether eToro is legit, and, for new traders, is eToro good for beginners.
The eToro app blends three things a rival usually splits: a WebTrader for manual trades, CopyTrader for mirroring, and a social feed. CopyTrader lets you allocate from $200 to an eligible Popular Investor and shows their 12-month return, maximum drawdown, and average hold time first.
eToro suits the trader whose reason for joining is copy trading or holding real shares in the same place, and who accepts a wider spread for that ecosystem. The withdrawal flow is covered in how to withdraw from eToro.
| Mode | Min | EUR/USD cost | Fee note | Max leverage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CFD forex | $50 | ~1.0 pip all-in | $5 withdrawal fee | 1:30 |
| Copy trading | $200 | Mirrors leader’s cost | Same spread applies | 1:30 |
| Real stocks | $50 | Commission-free in many regions | FX conversion on non-USD | n/a |
The trade-off is plain: eToro is the priciest per lot here at around $10 round-turn, so it earns its place on the copy and investing ecosystem, not on raw cost. Full breakdown in my eToro review.
Key facts:
I tested Vantage for the combination a lot of traders actually want: a raw-spread account inside a modern app with real charting. Founded in 2009 and headquartered in Sydney, Vantage pairs ASIC and FCA cover with a TradingView-integrated app.
The register entries were active in 2026 with no enforcement on file. More detail in whether Vantage is legit and whether Vantage is regulated.
The Vantage app is one of the few here with TradingView charting built in, alongside MT4, MT5, and its ProTrader web platform. Order entry is fast, and there is an in-app copy-trading feed for traders who want to follow others without leaving a raw account.
Vantage suits the trader who wants near-zero spreads and strong charting on a phone, and who is happy to pay a small commission for it.
| Account | Min deposit | EUR/USD spread | Commission | Max leverage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | $50 | 1.0 pip | $0 | 1:30 |
| Raw ECN | $50 | 0.0 pips | ~$3/side | 1:30 |
At roughly $6 all-in per lot, the Raw account undercuts every spread-only app here except Exness. EU and UK clients trade under the 1:30 retail cap. Full breakdown in my Vantage review.
Key facts:
I tested Exness with a live account and it posted the highest raw score in this group, 9.3, on the two things that compound over a year: cost and payout speed. Founded in 2008, Exness is built for traders who move money in and out often.
All regulated entries were active in 2026. The entity-by-entity map is in whether Exness is safe and whether Exness is regulated.
Exness runs MT4, MT5, its own Exness Terminal in the browser, and the Exness App on mobile. The app’s standout is the withdrawal flow, which cleared e-wallets in 2 to 4 minutes in my testing, the fastest here.
Exness suits traders in MENA, Southeast Asia, and Africa who want the lowest running cost, fast local payouts, and swap-free accounts. It is not the pick if you specifically need FCA or ASIC retail cover, since UK retail routes offshore.
| Account | Min deposit | EUR/USD spread | Commission | Max leverage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | $10 | 1.0 pip | $0 | 1:30 |
| Pro | $200 | 0.2 pips | $0 | 1:30 |
| Raw Spread | $200 | 0.0 pips | from $3.50/side | 1:30 |
At about $1.30 all-in on the Pro account, Exness was the cheapest cost per lot I measured anywhere. EU clients on the CySEC book see the 1:30 cap and slightly wider Pro spreads. Full breakdown in my Exness review.
Key facts:
I tested CMC Markets for the trader whose priority is charting depth on a phone. Listed on the London Stock Exchange since 1989, CMC is one of the most established names here, and its Next Generation app is a charting powerhouse.
The register entries were confirmed active in 2026. The full safety review is in whether CMC Markets is safe.
The Next Generation app carries 115+ indicators, pattern-recognition tools, and a charting layout that rivals a desktop terminal, plus MT4 and TradingView charts. CMC suits the research-led trader who wants professional charting and a wide instrument catalogue on mobile.
CMC is not one of our affiliate partners, so its section carries a review link only, with no money CTA. The ranking basis is unchanged: real score, real licences.
| Account | Min deposit | EUR/USD spread | Commission | Max leverage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spread | $0 | 0.7 pips | $0 | 1:30 |
| FX Active | $0 | 0.5 pips | $2.50/side | 1:30 (1:500 pro) |
Pro classification on the FCA or ASIC entity can unlock 1:500 without leaving the onshore regulator. Full breakdown in my CMC Markets review.
Key facts:
I tested XTB for the trader moving from forex into real shares, or the investor who wants both in one clean app. Founded in 2002 in Warsaw and publicly listed, XTB has one of the best proprietary mobile platforms in this ranking.
The entries were active in 2026. Detail is in whether XTB is safe and whether XTB is legit.
The xStation app is fast and uncluttered, with strong charting and a genuinely useful in-app education section. Real stock and ETF investing sits alongside CFDs, commission-free in many regions up to a monthly turnover cap.
XTB suits the EU or UK trader who wants to buy and hold real shares through a phone while keeping a CFD account for shorter trades. It is not a partner broker, so its section is a review link only.
| Mode | Min deposit | Cost | Commission | Max leverage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CFD forex | $0 | 0.5 pips EUR/USD | $0 | 1:30 |
| Real stocks | $0 | Commission-free to cap | Small fee above cap | n/a |
The commission-free stock allowance makes XTB one of the cheapest ways to start investing in shares here, within the monthly limit. Full breakdown in my XTB review.
Key facts:
I tested FP Markets for the trader who wants raw MetaTrader spreads on a solid ASIC book. Founded in 2005 in Sydney, FP Markets has run for two decades with no public enforcement action on file.
The entries were active in 2026. Full safety detail is in whether FP Markets is safe.
FP Markets gives you the widest platform choice here: MT4, MT5, cTrader, and IRESS for shares. The mobile experience runs through the MetaTrader and cTrader apps rather than a heavily branded proprietary app, which suits traders who already know MetaTrader.
FP Markets suits the raw-spread trader who wants MT4 or MT5 on an ASIC licence, and share traders who want IRESS. Its Raw ECN Pro from $100 is unusually low for an ASIC book.
| Account | Min deposit | EUR/USD spread | Commission | Max leverage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | $100 | 1.0 pip | $0 | 1:30 |
| Raw | $100 | 0.0 pips | ~$3/side | 1:30 |
At around $6 all-in per lot, the Raw account matches the tier-1 ECN group on cost. Full breakdown in my FP Markets review.
Key facts:
I tested AvaTrade for the trader who wants the widest set of apps and platforms under one broker. Founded in 2006 in Dublin, AvaTrade runs one of the broadest regulatory stacks in the industry.
The entries were active in 2026. Full detail in whether AvaTrade is legit.
AvaTradeGO is the flagship mobile app, and it sits alongside MT4, MT5, AvaWebTrader, AvaOptions for options trading, and AvaSocial and DupliTrade for copy trading. AvaTrade suits the trader who wants options or copy trading in the same house, and Canadian residents who want a local CIRO entity rather than an offshore book.
| Account | Min deposit | EUR/USD spread | Commission | Max leverage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Floating | $100 | 0.9 pips | $0 | 1:30 |
| Fixed | $100 | 0.9 pips fixed | $0 | 1:30 |
At about $9 all-in per lot, AvaTrade earns its place on platform breadth and Canadian access, not raw cost. A quarterly inactivity fee applies after a dormant period. Full breakdown in my AvaTrade review.
Key facts:
I tested Plus500 for the trader who wants the simplest possible app that is still tier-1 regulated. Founded in 2008 and listed on the London Stock Exchange in the FTSE 250, Plus500 built its name on a clean, no-clutter interface.
The entries were active in 2026. Full detail in whether Plus500 is safe and whether Plus500 is legit.
The Plus500 app is proprietary and deliberately minimal: quick to learn, easy to place a trade, and hard to get lost in. The trade-off is no MetaTrader and no third-party charting, so advanced traders will find it thin.
Plus500 suits the beginner who values a simple, stable app over platform depth, and the UAE trader who wants a DFSA onshore entity. It is not a partner broker, so its section carries a review link only.
| Account | Min deposit | EUR/USD spread | Commission | Max leverage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Retail | $100 | 0.6 pips | $0 | 1:30 |
| Professional | $100 | 0.6 pips | $0 | up to 1:300 (DFSA) |
Cost is bundled into the spread with no separate commission, which keeps the maths simple, though overnight funding applies to held positions. Full breakdown in my Plus500 review.
Key facts:
I tested RoboForex for the trader who knowingly accepts offshore risk in exchange for very high leverage and low cost. Founded in 2009, RoboForex has a 16-year track record, and it earns its place here on execution and price, not on regulation.
The register entry was active in 2026. The honest safety picture is in whether RoboForex is legit.
RoboForex runs MT4, MT5, and its own R StocksTrader and R MobileTrader apps, the last of which adds thousands of real stock CFDs. Order entry and charting on the mobile app are solid, and cent accounts let you practise at tiny size.
RoboForex suits the experienced trader who wants 1:2000 leverage and ECN cost, and who accepts the offshore trade-off. It is never a first account for a beginner.
| Account | Min deposit | EUR/USD spread | Commission | Max leverage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pro-ECN | $10 | 0.0 pips | ~$2/side | 1:2000 |
| Cent | $10 | 1.0 pip | $0 | 1:2000 |
At around $4 all-in per lot, RoboForex has the lowest pure commission I tested, offset by the offshore licence. Full breakdown in my RoboForex review.
We feature vetted partners first, but every score, spread, and licence below stays real and tested. Read the table across, not just down, because the right pick depends on which column matters most to you.
| Broker | Overall score | Min deposit | EUR/USD spread | Max leverage | Top regulator | Withdrawal speed |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| XM | 9.1 | $5 | 0.6 pips | 1:30 | CySEC / ASIC / FCA | 1 to 2 days |
| eToro | 7.8 | $50 | 1.0 pip | 1:30 | FCA / CySEC | 1 to 2 days |
| Vantage | 8.8 | $50 | 0.0 pips (Raw) | 1:30 | ASIC / FCA | Same day |
| Exness | 9.3 | $10 | 0.2 pips (Pro) | 1:30 (EU) | CySEC / FCA | 2 to 4 minutes |
| CMC Markets | 9.1 | $0 | 0.7 pips | 1:30 | FCA / ASIC | 1 to 2 days |
| XTB | 9.0 | $0 | 0.5 pips | 1:30 | FCA / CySEC | 1 to 2 days |
| FP Markets | 8.9 | $100 | 0.0 pips (Raw) | 1:30 | ASIC / CySEC | Same day |
| AvaTrade | 8.7 | $100 | 0.9 pips | 1:30 | CBI Ireland / ASIC | Same day |
| Plus500 | 8.7 | $100 | 0.6 pips | 1:30 | FCA / CySEC | 1 to 2 days |
| RoboForex | 8.0 | $10 | 0.0 pips (ECN) | 1:2000 (offshore) | FSC Belize | 22 to 28 minutes |
Two patterns jump out. First, the lowest minimum (XM at $5, or $0 to open at CMC and XTB) and the lowest running cost (Exness Pro at roughly $1.30/lot) are not the same app, so your starting capital and your trading volume point to different rows. Second, the withdrawal column is where the apps separate most, from Exness at minutes to the bank-rail group at a day or two.
Which app you live in every day matters as much as the spread. The table below maps each broker’s terminals and its own mobile app, in the same partner-first order as the ranking.
| Broker | Trading platforms | Own mobile app |
|---|---|---|
| XM | MT4, MT5, WebTrader | XM App |
| eToro | eToro WebTrader, CopyTrader | eToro Mobile App |
| Vantage | MT4, MT5, ProTrader, TradingView | Vantage App |
| Exness | MT4, MT5, Exness Terminal | Exness App |
| CMC Markets | Next Generation, MT4, TradingView | CMC Mobile |
| XTB | xStation, Web | xStation Mobile |
| FP Markets | MT4, MT5, cTrader, IRESS | MetaTrader / cTrader apps |
| AvaTrade | MT4, MT5, AvaOptions, AvaSocial | AvaTradeGO |
| Plus500 | WebTrader (proprietary) | Plus500 Mobile |
| RoboForex | MT4, MT5, R StocksTrader | R MobileTrader |
MetaTrader 4 and 5 remain the workhorses for forex on mobile, because the app is consistent across brokers and supports expert advisors. cTrader, offered by FP Markets, adds depth-of-market and faster order types that scalpers like.
Proprietary apps like xStation, AvaTradeGO, and the Plus500 app trade some of that flexibility for a simpler, more guided experience, which is often the better fit for a first-time trader. If you already know MetaTrader, pick a broker that supports it so your muscle memory carries over.
If you are starting fresh, a clean proprietary app is usually easier to learn.
The headline spread is only half the cost. All-in cost per lot, spread plus commission, is what actually leaves your account. Here is what I measured in 2026, in the same order as the ranking.
| Broker | Cheapest account | EUR/USD spread | Commission | All-in per lot |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| XM | Raw | 0.0 pips | from $3.50/side | ~$7.00 |
| eToro | Standard | 1.0 pip | $0 | ~$10.00 |
| Vantage | Raw ECN | 0.0 pips | ~$3/side | ~$6.00 |
| Exness | Pro | 0.2 pips | $0 | ~$1.30 |
| CMC Markets | FX Active | 0.5 pips | $2.50/side | ~$7.00 |
| XTB | Standard | 0.5 pips | $0 | ~$5.00 |
| FP Markets | Raw | 0.0 pips | ~$3/side | ~$6.00 |
| AvaTrade | Floating | 0.9 pips | $0 | ~$9.00 |
| Plus500 | Retail | 0.6 pips | $0 | ~$6.00 |
| RoboForex | Pro-ECN | 0.0 pips | ~$2/side | ~$4.00 |
The cheapest all-in cost I measured was Exness Pro at about $1.30, on a tight spread and no commission. The lowest pure commission belongs to RoboForex Pro-ECN at about $4, offset by its offshore licence.
For a trader placing 500 round-turn lots a year, the gap between $1.30 and $10 is roughly $4,350 in annual cost. That money leaves your account whether the trade wins or loses.
Watch for costs that never show in the spread:
How fast you get paid out is a real signal of how a broker treats you. I ran multiple withdrawal cycles on every app in 2026.
| Broker | Funding methods | Withdrawal speed | Fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| XM | Visa, Mastercard, Skrill, Neteller, Bank transfer | Same day (e-wallet) / 1 to 2 days (bank) | $0 |
| eToro | Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, Skrill, Neteller | 1 to 2 business days | $5 flat |
| Vantage | Visa, Mastercard, Skrill, Neteller, Crypto | Same business day | $0 |
| Exness | Skrill, Neteller, Visa, Mastercard, Local bank, USDT | 2 to 4 minutes (e-wallet) | $0 |
| CMC Markets | Visa, Mastercard, Bank transfer | 1 to 2 business days | $0 |
| XTB | Visa, Mastercard, Skrill, Bank transfer | 1 to 2 business days | $0 |
| FP Markets | Visa, Mastercard, Skrill, Neteller, Bank transfer | Same business day | $0 |
| AvaTrade | Visa, Mastercard, Skrill, Neteller, Bank transfer | Same business day | $0 |
| Plus500 | Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, Bank transfer | 1 to 2 business days | $0 |
| RoboForex | Visa, Mastercard, Crypto, Bank transfer | 22 to 28 minutes | $0 |
A sudden document request that appears only when you try to withdraw, not when you deposit, is one of the clearest warning signs a broker is not acting in good faith.
The best app is the one that fits your capital, your market, and how you trade. Here is the decision tree I would use.
If you are a beginner with $500 or less start with XM at a $5 minimum. You get four tier-1 licences, a commission-free Standard account, and deep in-app education, so early mistakes stay cheap. Exness at $10 is the close second with faster withdrawals from day one.
If copy trading is your reason for joining open eToro for the deepest published track record per trader, or Vantage if you also want raw spreads under the copy feed. AvaTrade is a third option with AvaSocial built into its app.
If you want to buy and hold real shares XTB is the cleanest app for commission-free stock investing, with eToro a strong second if you want stocks and copy trading in one place. Read whether XTB is safe before funding.
If you are an active scalper weigh Exness Pro at $1.30 all-in, or FP Markets and Vantage Raw at about $6. Our best day trading brokers ranking weights execution above everything else.
If you are in the EU or UK and need MiFID cover prioritise an app that onboards you onto an FCA or CySEC entity: XM, XTB, CMC Markets, or eToro all do. Verify the exact entity on the register before funding.
If you are in MENA or Southeast Asia Exness is built for these regions with local bank rails, fast payouts, and swap-free accounts. XM and Vantage are strong alternatives.
If you are a Canadian resident AvaTrade is the standout, the only app here with a local CIRO licence and CIPF cover up to CAD 1 million.
If you want the highest leverage and accept offshore risk RoboForex offers 1:2000 and one of the lowest ECN costs anywhere, but only on the FSC Belize entity with no statutory scheme. Choose it knowingly, never as a first account.
Most apps that lose people money do not look dangerous. They look polished, regulated, and generous. Here is what to watch for before you fund.
The star-rating trap. A glossy app store rating measures interface polish and review volume, not safety or cost. Check the licence on the public register first, then use the rating as a tie-breaker on usability, never as the first filter.
The bonus trap. A large deposit bonus almost always carries a turnover condition: you must trade a multiple of the bonus before you can withdraw anything, sometimes including your own deposit. The bonus is marketing, not free money.
Hidden fees that never show in the spread. Watch for:
The offshore-versus-tier-1 trap. This is the most important one. A strong brand can hold an FCA licence and still route clients from certain countries onto an offshore book with no compensation scheme.
The app icon shows the FCA logo, the client agreement names a Seychelles, Vanuatu, or Belize company. Always read the registered entity on your agreement, because the protection follows the entity.
RoboForex is honest about being offshore-only, which is fine if you choose it knowingly. The danger is an app that displays tier-1 logos while quietly putting you offshore.
Regulator shopping and clone apps. Be wary of an app licensed only in a light-touch jurisdiction, or one quoting a genuine firm’s FCA number while operating as an unrelated company. The fix is the same one-minute check every time: search the regulator’s own register, confirm the company name matches exactly, and confirm the status reads authorised or active.
For the apps we specifically do not recommend and why, see our list of brokers to avoid.
For a first trading app on a small budget, XM is the pick: a $5 minimum, four tier-1 licences, and a simple app with deep education, so your early mistakes stay cheap while the protection stays strong.
If copy trading is your reason for joining, eToro has the deepest published track record per trader, and Vantage pairs a copy feed with raw spreads. For the lowest running cost and the fastest withdrawals I measured this year, Exness leads on price.
Below those, the list spreads into specialists: CMC Markets and XTB for charting and real-share investing, FP Markets for raw MetaTrader spreads, AvaTrade for options and Canadian clients, Plus500 for a clean beginner app, and RoboForex for high leverage if you knowingly accept offshore risk.
Whichever you choose, do the one thing that matters more than any ranking or star rating: open the client agreement, read the registered entity, and confirm the licence on the public register before you deposit. An app is only as regulated as the specific entity holding your money, and that is a 60-second check no rating can replace. The full scoring is on the methodology page, and our disclosures are on the how we make money page.
Our pick: XM for a $5 first account with four tier-1 licences and deep education. eToro for copy trading with a real published track record, Vantage for a copy feed on raw spreads. Exness for the lowest all-in cost and the fastest withdrawals. CMC Markets and XTB for charting and real-share investing, FP Markets for raw MetaTrader spreads, AvaTrade for options and Canadian clients, Plus500 for a clean beginner app, RoboForex only if you knowingly accept offshore risk. Verify every app on the public register before you fund.

XM, on the combination of a $5 minimum deposit and genuine four-jurisdiction tier-1 cover (CySEC, ASIC, FCA, and DFSA). A new trader wants to start with real money but a small position size, and most raw-spread apps ask for $100 to $200 to open. XM gives you serious regulatory protection at the lowest entry floor in this group, with a commission-free Standard account that removes per-lot maths while you learn. The app itself keeps order entry simple, adds biometric login, and links to a deep education library with daily webinars and a free demo. eToro is a close second for beginners who want copy trading built in, though its $50 minimum and 1 pip average spread run a little higher. The point for a beginner is that early mistakes stay cheap while the regulatory protection stays strong.
On a pure spread basis the raw and ECN accounts share the floor: Exness, FP Markets, Vantage, and RoboForex all average 0.0 to 0.1 pips on EUR/USD. The honest comparison is all-in cost per lot, which adds commission. By that measure Exness Pro was the cheapest I tested in 2026 at roughly $1.30 per round-turn lot with no commission. RoboForex Pro-ECN runs about $4 round-turn, and FP Markets and Vantage land near $6. A commission-free Standard account looks cheaper on the surface but bundles the cost into a wider 0.5 to 1.0 pip spread, which usually works out more expensive once you trade real volume. Always compare spread plus commission together, not the headline spread alone. For 500 lots a year, the gap between $1.30 and $10 is over $4,000 in cost.
A trading app is only as safe as the licensed entity behind it, so the app itself is not the risk, the broker holding your money is. A safe app is run by a broker with an active tier-1 licence (FCA, ASIC, or CySEC) that forces three protections: segregated client accounts, so your deposit sits ring-fenced from company funds, minimum capital buffers, and negative balance protection on retail accounts. The FCA and CySEC add a compensation scheme, up to £85,000 per person under FSCS and up to €20,000 under the EU's ICF. On the security side, every app I tested offered biometric login and two-factor authentication, which you should switch on before your first deposit. An app that shows only an offshore Seychelles, Vanuatu, or Belize licence is licensed to a far lower standard with no compensation fund behind it.
eToro for the deepest copy product, Vantage if you also want raw spreads. eToro's CopyTrader is the most established: it lets you mirror an eligible Popular Investor from a $200 allocation, and it publishes a full performance history per trader, including 12-month return, maximum drawdown, and average hold time, before you commit a dollar. The honest caveat is cost, because EUR/USD averages around 1 pip, well above the raw floor, so you pay for the ecosystem. Vantage takes a different route, pairing an in-app social feed with a Raw ECN account at 0.0 pips, so you do not overpay just to follow other traders. AvaTrade also offers copy systems through AvaSocial and DupliTrade built into its app. For most beginners the eToro app is the simplest place to start copy trading, and the Vantage app is the cheaper place to scale it.
It varies widely even among well-regulated apps. In my 2026 account-opening tests, CMC Markets and XTB advertised no minimum to open, though you still need enough to fund a meaningful position. XM opened a Standard account at $5 and Exness Standard at $10, the lowest funded floors in this group, and RoboForex matched the low end at $10. eToro and Vantage sit at $50, while AvaTrade, FP Markets, and Plus500 ask for $100 to enter. A higher minimum does not mean a safer app. What matters more is that the entry point matches your starting capital, so a small first balance is not eaten by a wide standard spread before you have learned anything. If you have $500 or less, an app with a low minimum and a commission-free Standard account keeps more of your money in trades.
XTB for real-share investing on a polished mobile platform, with eToro a strong second if you want stocks and copy trading in one app. XTB's app offers commission-free real stock and ETF investing in many regions up to a monthly turnover threshold, alongside its xStation charting, which is one of the cleanest mobile terminals I tested. It also publishes a large in-app education library, useful if you are moving from forex into equities. eToro pairs real-share investing with its social feed, so you can follow how other investors are positioned before buying. CMC Markets covers thousands of share CFDs rather than real shares, which suits active trading more than long-term holding. If your goal is buying and holding company stock through a phone, XTB is the app I would open first, and I would read whether XTB is safe before funding it.
Do not trust the badge on the app store listing. Find the broker's registered company name and licence number, usually on the legal or about page inside the app or on its website, then search the regulator's own public register: register.fca.org.uk for the FCA, asic.gov.au for ASIC, and cysec.gov.cy for CySEC. Confirm three things: the company name matches exactly, the status reads authorised or active, and the permissions cover dealing in or arranging investments. A payment-services or e-money permission alone is not enough to run a brokerage. If the app quotes a number with no matching public entry, or shows only a certificate of incorporation from a low-tax jurisdiction, treat it as a serious red flag and walk away. The whole check costs about a minute and rules out most dangerous apps before you ever deposit.
Most are open across a wide range of countries, but which legal entity holds your account changes by jurisdiction, and so does the protection you get. An EU resident usually lands on a CySEC book with ICF cover, while a client in the UAE or Southeast Asia may route to an international entity with lighter protection under the same app. AvaTrade runs several separate entities and routes Canadian clients to a local CIRO licence with CIPF cover up to CAD 1 million. eToro does not accept clients in the US for CFDs or in Singapore and a handful of other markets, so always check its accepted-country list first. The ranking table on this page lets you filter by your own country to see who onboards you. Whatever the table shows, confirm the exact entity named on your client agreement before funding.
A broker CFD app and a real-investing app look similar but do different things to your money. On a CFD app (XM, Exness, FP Markets, Vantage, Plus500, CMC, AvaTrade, RoboForex) you trade a contract that tracks a price using leverage, so you can go long or short and you never own the underlying asset. On a real-investing app (XTB share investing, eToro real stocks) you buy and hold the actual share or ETF in your name. CFDs suit active short-term trading and let you use margin, but leverage cuts both ways and overnight financing adds cost. Real investing suits buying and holding without a financing charge, though you cannot short easily. Several apps here offer both modes. Decide which one you are actually using before you fund, because the risk profile and the tax treatment differ.
For scalping, execution model matters more than the app design, and the raw-spread apps lead. Exness Pro averaged 0.2 pips on EUR/USD in my testing at roughly $1.30 all-in per lot, the cheapest cost I measured. FP Markets Raw and Vantage Raw ECN both ran 0.0 pips plus about $6 round-turn commission, with fast in-app order entry and low latency to their servers. RoboForex Pro-ECN sits near $4 round-turn, though on an offshore licence. A scalper should also check that the app allows one-tap order entry, tight stop placement, and a stable connection, all of which I confirmed on these four during live use. Avoid a commission-free Standard account for scalping, because the wider bundled spread quietly erodes a strategy that lives on a fraction of a pip. Read our best day trading brokers ranking for the execution-first version of this list.
Yes, and I would treat a free demo as a required step before funding any app. Every app on this list offers an unlimited or long-running demo with virtual money, and the point is not to practise a strategy so much as to test the app itself under real conditions. In a demo you can check how fast orders fill, whether the charting and indicators you need are present, how the app handles a fast-moving market, and how simple it is to set a stop-loss and take-profit. It also tells you whether the interface suits you, since an app that feels cluttered on a demo will feel worse with real money on the line. Spend a few sessions on the demo, place a range of order types, then fund the smallest amount the app allows before you trade at size.
It depends entirely on which entity holds your account, not on the app. On a tier-1 retail account the cap is 1:30 on major currency pairs under FCA, ASIC, and EU rules, with lower caps on minors, commodities, and shares. The 1:400, 1:500, 1:1000, and 1:2000 figures advertised by brands like XM, AvaTrade, and RoboForex belong to their offshore entities, not the regulated European or Australian books. RoboForex at 1:2000 is the Belize entity specifically. Professional clients who meet strict experience and capital tests can access higher leverage at some tier-1 apps, but qualifying means giving up certain retail protections, including negative balance protection in some cases. For most retail traders, 1:30 is both the legal cap on the safest apps and a sensible ceiling, because high leverage magnifies losses just as fast as gains.
Exness was clearly the fastest in my 2026 testing: Skrill and Neteller withdrawals settled in 2 to 4 minutes across 12 cycles, and local bank rails in supported regions cleared the same business day at no broker fee. RoboForex was next, with card and Difinex payouts clearing in 22 to 28 minutes. AvaTrade and Vantage e-wallets cleared same business day. The slower group, XM, CMC, XTB, Plus500, and eToro, ran 1 to 2 business days over bank rails, and eToro adds a $5 flat fee per withdrawal. Withdrawal speed matters because it is where weaker brokers reveal themselves, so I run multiple cycles on every app I review. A regulated app that pays out quickly and predictably is showing you its priorities, and a sudden document request only at withdrawal time is a warning sign.
No, and this is the most useful caveat on this page. App store ratings mostly reflect interface polish and how many happy or angry users left a review, not the two things that actually protect and cost you money: regulation strength and true trading cost. An app can hold a glossy 4.7-star rating and still route you to an offshore entity with no compensation scheme, or bundle a wide spread that quietly costs more per lot than a plainer-looking rival. My scores weight regulation, real spreads, withdrawal speed, and platform stability, verified on live funded accounts, above visual gloss. Use the star rating as a tie-breaker on usability once two apps are already close on safety and cost, never as the first filter. Read the buyer's guide section below, which maps trader types to apps regardless of any store rating.

Risk warning: CFDs are complex instruments and carry a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. 74-89 % of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs with this provider category.
