Ghana is one of the largest retail forex markets in West Africa, with a fast-growing base of mobile-first traders. For now no broker holds a Ghanaian retail forex licence, because the SEC has not yet issued one (draft rules are in progress), so every broker a Ghanaian trader can use is offshore and the quality of that offshore regulator is your main line of defence. Local funding runs heavily through mobile money. Our shortlist favours brokers with strong offshore licences, mobile-money funding, and a proven payout record.

Regulation in Ghana

Ghana regulates its securities market through the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission Ghana) under the Securities Industry Act 2016, with the Bank of Ghana (BoG) controlling foreign exchange. The SEC does not yet license retail OTC forex or CFD brokers, though it presented draft guidelines in early 2026 that would license retail forex for the first time. For now, Ghanaian traders use offshore-regulated brokers (FCA, ASIC, CySEC, FSCA), with no local compensation scheme, so recourse runs through the broker foreign regulator.

Tax Note for Ghana

Ghanaian tax residents are taxable on income through the GRA (Ghana Revenue Authority), and active trading gains through offshore brokers are most safely treated as taxable income at the graduated individual rates. Foreign brokers do not withhold Ghanaian tax, so the onus is on you to declare. Enforcement on individual offshore-broker profits is limited in practice, but the safest position is to declare.
