Best Brokers, Exchanges & Prop Firms in Nigeria (2026)

Nigeria is the largest retail forex market in West Africa, powered by a young, mobile-first trading community. Naira volatility and CBN foreign-exchange restrictions mean most traders fund through cards, local processors like Paystack and Flutterwave, and increasingly USDT rails when naira liquidity is tight. Our shortlist favours brokers with strong tier-one or FSCA oversight abroad, naira-friendly funding, and a proven payout record into Nigerian bank accounts, because with no local licence the quality of the offshore regulator is your main line of defence.

Regulation in Nigeria

Nigeria does not license retail forex or CFD brokers. The SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission), operating under the Investments and Securities Act 2025, regulates the capital markets, and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) controls foreign exchange, but neither issues a retail forex broker licence. Nigerian residents therefore trade with brokers regulated offshore by the FCA, ASIC, CySEC, FSCA or FSA Seychelles. That places retail forex in a legal grey zone: opening an account is not a criminal act, but you rely entirely on the broker foreign regulator, and there is no local compensation scheme or ombudsman to reimburse you if a broker fails. A strong tier-one or FSCA licence and segregated client money are what protect you here.

Tax Note for Nigeria

Under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, which took effect in January 2026, chargeable gains for individuals are taxed at personal income tax rates (progressive, up to 25%). Active forex and CFD trading profits are most safely treated as taxable income and declared to the tax authority (the FIRS, being reorganised as the Nigeria Revenue Service). Enforcement on offshore-broker profits is limited in practice, but the safest position is to declare. Rates and rules changed materially under the 2025 reform, so confirm your own position with a Nigerian tax practitioner before you file.

Risk warning: CFDs are complex instruments. 74-89% of retail accounts lose money. Affiliate disclosure: how we earn.
